It's hard to believe how fast the summer is flying by. The high school office will open back up on August 1st to begin preparing for the upcoming school year. If you've been around the high school at all this summer, you've noticed a tremendous amount of activity going on. We have new construction, remodeling, repairs, cleaning, and significant rewiring of the entire building to support technology improvements. Although the new performing arts/multiuse facility will not be completed until the 2013 school year, I am very excited about the impact the improvements we've made this summer will have on student learning and our school culture. The increased technology capacity alone should make it easier for students to access information both during and outside the school day. It will also improve the ability of our teachers to use technology to enhance instruction. Thank you to the Comstock Park Community for passing the bond and sinking fund that makes all of these improvements possible.
We've also reorganized areas of the building to accommodate the new Career Academy Program and make our general instructional space and storage space more functional. The first thing most people will notice is that we have significantly opened up the media center by consolidating books and removing unnecessary furniture. The goal is to make this a functional space for student learning, community meetings, and staff meetings. We have not removed any books from the media center at this point. Some materials have been stored until they can be reviewed and returned to the media center or distributed to classrooms for student use. If we determine that some of the materials that we currently own are no longer useful for student learning, we have talked about having a sale to allow the community to purchase these items. Any profit from this type of activity would go directly to improving the media center.
I hope all of you have had a wonderful summer so far and that you enjoy the rest of your summer. The 2012/13 school year will be here before you know it. Please check the front page of this website and here at my blog for additional updates in the next few weeks.
