We had a great first week of the new year at both NKHS and CPHS. I was able to spend a lot time with students and teachers this week, so I'm feeling pretty good today. The best part of this job is the opportunity to go into multiple classrooms and see the good things that our students and staff are doing in so many different areas. I get excited everytime I have the chance to get out into the classrooms. Our staff is never afraid to try new things if they think it might help students! And, our students never fail to reach and usually excede the expectation.
Today I saw a staff member using a vidoe conferenceing software (Skype) to communicate with a student who was at home and unable to be in class. Think about that for a minute. The student wasn't able to be in class, so the teacher tried to take the class to the student using technology. We certainly have a lot to learn about using technology to enhance instruction, but we are trying and we are learning everyday.
Ealier this week I met with the student leadership group to begin a series of meetings designed to work collaboratively with the student body to ensure that they have a voice in school decisions. At our next meeting we are going to discuss school policy and procedure so that we have the input of those most effected by our policy when we revise the policies in March. Future meetings will focus on instructional practices, curriculum design, course offerrings, and student relations. I was extremely impressed with the input I received from the students.
If I were to write down all of the exciting things I saw in classrooms this week, this post would be too long for anyone to read. I am very thankful to work with such outstanding people and in such an outstanding community!
